Requirements
Only one held item can be equipped. Finding another means choosing which to keep.
How to obtain this item
Break an ordinary chest with attacks: it has a 8% chance to drop one held item. The 11 items have equal weight, so the chance for this specific item per broken chest is 0.727% (8% × 1/11).
Stay next to a locked chest for 3.5 s to open it. It has a 50% held-item chance, giving 4.545% for this specific item (50% × 1/11). Enemies can still attack while you open the chest.
Defeating a Boss drops one held item with 100% probability; the specific-item chance is 9.091% (1/11). The same Boss drop branch also applies to a defeated rift legendary. You must collect the drop; the item is not equipped automatically when the Boss dies.
These are drop probabilities, not an inventory shop or a guaranteed route to a chosen item. The actual chest and Boss calls do not exclude your currently equipped item from the pool.
Equip, keep or replace
Each Pokémon has one held-item slot for the current run. Collecting an item with an empty slot equips it immediately. When the new item differs from the equipped one, the choice screen lets you keep the old item or replace it; the active run pauses for that choice, including the shared pause in co-op.
Replacement removes the old item’s equip effect before applying the new one. You cannot combine two held items. Collecting the same item again leaves the existing item unchanged: it does not stack its bonus, refresh its reactive timers or produce a duplicate coin refund. Held items are reset for a new run.
The item-found progress event is recorded when a different item is actually equipped. Keeping your previous item or collecting its duplicate does not record the offered item as newly equipped.
Item-specific behavior
Attack damage is multiplied by 1.4, and switching the active move slot is blocked while equipped. Replacing the item removes both the damage modifier and the switch restriction.
Other chest rewards
An ordinary chest separately drops either a healing berry or a magnet, with 50% chance each. The berry restores 30% of maximum HP up to the HP cap; this recovery comes from the berry pickup, not from obtaining the held item.
