Weather changes attack-type damage for players and enemies. Choose an attack for both the target matchup and current weather, and account for snow or sand when planning recovery.

What to do

  • Read the weather announcement.
  • Check which learned attack gains or loses damage.
  • In snow, preserve more escape room if you are not Ice-type.
  • Watch HP under chip weather even if no enemy touches you.
  • Use the type tool with weather intensity matching the current transition.

Numbers & conditions

At full intensity: sun Fire ×1.5/Water ×0.5; rain Water ×1.5/Electric ×1.2/Fire ×0.5; sand Rock/Ground/Steel ×1.3; snow Ice ×1.5; fog Ghost/Fairy/Psychic ×1.3. Weather fades in and out over 3 seconds.

Common mistakes

Snow slows non-Ice Pokémon by up to 10%. Unsafe sand/snow chip checks occur every 2 seconds, but do not directly finish off the player; that does not make nearby enemy attacks safe.
